 Our Bloodlines

Our bloodlines include these Champions.......

Frio Viento (Triunfo x Maria Luisa)

Frio Viento was owned, trained and shown by Mr. James Swank of el VIVA- YO farm in Florida. Frio was an oustanding fino stallion with a wide range of gait.

He retired UNDEFEATED in "Classic Fino" - including two (2) Grand National Championships.

He was only 14 hands, but that was deceiving!

He was a lot horse to ride --extremely spirited!

He has over 20 registered offspring through out the country.

He was tripled registered:
PFOBA #1061
APF #1274
PHA #8774 (Palomino Horse Assoc.)

Maria Luisa ( El Huerlano x Cremita)

Dam of Puerto Rican Champions!

Maria Luisa was foaled in 1952 on the farm of Don Miguel Guevara near Isabella Puerto Rico. Her sire was El Huerlano a palomino by Faraon. Maria's dam was Cremita sired by Batalla who was a direct son of the DULCE SUENO!
Maria was an albino(or cremello as some claim) with a very unusual personality. She was intelligent and willing and always took care of her rider. She performed equally well in horse shows, mounted drill teams and parades. Maria was small in size with well balanced conformation and had the ability to produce beautiful strong gaited babies with her wonderful disposition.
Captain Ira Meeth and his family brought Maria Luisa to the USA in 1960 along with 2 other albinos,a black and the dazzling palomino stallion Cori which they purchased form George J. LaHood, Jr.
Cori and Maria were bred and this mare that was thought to be barren.. produced Sombre LaCE in 1961, Corito in 1968 and Novita in 1969.
Bred to Triunfo a red chestnut Maria produced Frio Viento in 1970 and Camarad T in 1971. Maria produced Patron de Omega, a buckskin when bred to Singer a bay and when bred to Cantante de Omega a chestnut she gave birth to Tia Maria de Omega a chocolate palomino.
Maria Luisa was one very special lady and we value her bloodlines tremendously....she is present in all our offspring at least once and our mare Cita has her 2 times in her pedigree.

Bolero LaCE (Volare x Morena)

BOLERO LACE FOUNDATION SIRE PAINTING

bolero LaCE foundation picture

PFHA #2 Foundation Sire

BOLERO LaCEone of the six foundation sires of the Paso Fino Horse breed.  This magnificent black stallion  was born in Puerto Rico, was owned and shown by the Figueroa family.  He was imported to the mainland in 1968.  He was the only foundation sire to have his dam and sire also imported to the States.

The main purpose in bringing Bolero to the States, was to use him as a breeding stallion.  He had been terribly foundered prior to leaving Puerto Rico,  but made an unbelievable recovery and returned to the show ring in 1969,  and became the National Champion Classic Fino and National Champion Conformation Paso Fino.  There were no National Grand Championship shows in those early days.

He was herd sire for several large farms and lived his final happy and productive years at LaV’s Pinewood Paso Fino Farm in Mississippi.  He was owned by Charles and Paula Cale, but his true master was Vincent LaVertu.

In 1988, the Cales were approached about Bolero’s induction into the Hall of Fame in Puerto rico.  He received the Merit of Honor, and the induction into the Hall of Fame, along with three other horses from the United States.  Later that year, he was designated as a foundation sire of the Paso Fino Horse Association AND the Pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino Federation of America, Inc.

Dr. Marilyn Todd Daniels, renowned equine artist, contacted the Cales in 1988 for permission to photograph Bolero for a foundation sire painting.

Upon completion of the group of foundation sire paintings, they were exhibited at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C..

During his last days of life, Boleros’ gallant heart would not let him give in to his failing and aged body.  He was put to rest on December 26, 1991

Bolero is sadly missed by those who loved and cared for him (and those who have been blessed with his bloodline in their barn). His individual excellence and influence on the American Paso Fino breed has been unsurpassed, living on through his progeny.

This article is an abbreviated version of a collaboration of Charles and Paula Cale, and, Arlene LaVertu and Bonnie Cannon.  Our thanks to all of them.
